How much of your listening is made up of men versus women? That’s the question Spotify hopes to answer as they launch their “Equalizer” tool today.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Spotify has launched a new tool that allows users to determine what percentage of male and female musicians they listen to.

After finding your results, the tool then suggests a balanced playlist curated to your listening habits. The playlist starts at an even 50/50 split between male and female or non-binary artists but can be altered all the way up to 90/10 giving you a playlist mostly consisting of female and non-binary artists and allowing listeners to diversify their listening habits.

The curated playlists are meant to showcase artists who are household names as well as artists you may not have heard of before.

The launch of this tool comes after 2017 streaming statistics revealed an extreme lack of female representation. All 10 of the top 10 streamed songs of the year were by male artists as were the top 10 albums of the year.

Spotify has launched the Equalizer on International Women’s Day in an effort to improve these statistics for 2018.

As the spokesperson for the project, American DJ and producer Honey Dijon, says, “music is better when everyone’s involved.”
