Festivities surrounding the Canadian Screen Awards began this week in Toronto. Last night the ceremony celebrating excellence in non-fiction programming was held at the Westin Harbour Castle in downtown Toronto.
The ceremony was held to honour achievements in television news, sports, documentary, lifestyle, factual and reality programming. The ceremony, hosted by The Beaverton’s Miguel Rivas, was the first in a week-long annual celebration hosted by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
CBC took home 18 of the 49 awards for achievements in various fields. CTV’s “The Amazing Race Canada” was also a popular winner taking home four awards.
The festivities continue on Wednesday with a gala celebrating creative fiction. On Thursday a gala will be held to honour immersive and digital storytelling. The festivities culminate on Sunday with a broadcast gala on CBC honouring Canadian film and television.
